Cape Town - Proteas speedster Kagiso Rabada has expressed his disappointment at being knocked out of the ICC Champions Trophy during the groups stages.

Rabada only picked up one wicket at the tournament in South Africa's three matches as they were eliminated after Sunday's eight-wicket loss to India in London.

The 22-year-old said he was "gutted" to have been eliminated, but said in a Nissan-sponsored interview with Proteas legend Shaun Pollock that anything could happen in major ICC tournaments.

"It was such a strong side and to be knocked out prematurely is very disappointing and it's not up to our standard. Unfortunately, it's just the way it is," Rabada said.

"It just shows you that every game is a new day, especially in tournaments like these.

"Anyone can come out on top so it's really sudden-death type of stuff."

Rabada has returned to South Africa and he will not feature in the upcoming three-match T20I series against England between June 21-25.

He will, however, return to England to play his part in a highly-anticipated four-match Test series that gets underway at Lord's on July 6.
