Cape Town - West Indies star Chris Gayle has backed Darren Sammy's victory speech at the ICC World Twenty20 and spoken out about his own future.

The West Indies beat England by four wickets in the tournament final in dramatic fashion last Sunday, after which Sammy used his post-match speech to criticise the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and their administration.

Gayle took to his Instagram account on Tuesday to lend his support to Sammy, and he also provided some insight into his own West Indian future.

The controversial opener said that while he had not retired from Test or ODI cricket, he was unlikely to represent the West Indies again in 2016.

"I'm not eligible for selection for Test and ODI, think we played our last game for West Indies 2016," Gayle wrote.

"Hopefully 2017 the WI fans can see us again."

Gayle also took a dig at the match fees he and his team-mates received, labeling them a "joke", and said he would be donating his match fees to charity.

The West Indies are next in action when they host South Africa and Australia in an ODI tri-series in June.
