Where'd the Durban fans go?

Cape Town - Much has been written about Cricket South Africa (CSA) bending over backwards to accommodate India on their current tour of the country.

Three ODIs and two Tests is all the visiting Indians will play in South Africa - with the Tests between the top-two nations in the current ICC standings scheduled for the Wanderers and Durban.

The Wanderers crowd was poor at best, with the final day crowd sparse as the Proteas chased down what would've been a world record fourth innings total.

Fast forward to the current Boxing Day Test at Kingsmead in Durban and CSA officials will have been left scratching their heads in frustration at the poor turnout through the gates.

Kingsmead's capacity is given at 20 000, but only 13 581 showed up! That's around 68% of capacity - for a public holiday - and the final chance to see arguably South Africa's greatest ever cricketer Jacques Kallis in action.

The forecast is for poor weather and light on Day 2 - and further into the Test - so don't expect the crowds to come streaming through the turnstiles any time soon.

Contrast that Kingsmead crowd attendance with that at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for Day 1 of the dead, I repeat DEAD, fourth Ashes Test between Australia and England which saw a world record crowd of 91 092 show up!

That's over 91% capacity at the 100 000-strong 'G'...

FYI: The weather forecast for Newlands in Cape Town both for today - and the next three days - is swelteringly hot with zero chance of bad light... #justsaying
