Kimberley - Dolphins captain Morné van Wyk returned to haunt the franchise he had called home for 17 years when he struck his 20th List A century on Friday night to condemn the Knights to a third straight defeat in the One-Day Cup.

Van Wyk brought his considerable experience to bear as his calculated 107 formed the backbone of the Dolphins innings, helping them to chase down a target of 231 in the final over of the match and win by four wickets.

Although Van Wyk was caught behind off the bowling of Malusi Siboto with 33 runs still required, by that time Daryn Smit was into his stride, and his unbeaten 47 saw the Dolphins home.

The visitors required 16 runs off the final two overs, but were helped by four byes off the first ball of Quinton Friend’s over before Robbie Frylinck sealed the match with three balls to spare when he hit Ryan McLaren for a four and a six.

The Knights had opted for a steady approach to their innings after they won the toss and opted to bat first at Diamond Oval, but were found a bit short after settling for 230 for four in their 50 overs.

Although Rilee Rossouw struck a classy 90, it required some late hitting from the in-form McLaren to lift the home side to a competitive total, as the all-rounder struck two sixes and three fours in a 66-ball innings worth 63.

The Dolphins stumbled to 69 for four in their reply, with key batsmen Vaughn van Jaarsveld and David Miller falling cheaply, but still pulled off the chase thanks to the exploits of Van Wyk and Smit.

The Dolphins have now won both of their games thus far in the competition, while the Knights have lost three out of three.
