Johannesburg - Cricket SA (CSA) has postponed its annual awards day indefinitely, due to the ailing health of former president Nelson Mandela.

The awards were scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on Wednesday next week.

"They will now be re-scheduled for a future date which we'll advise in due course," CSA said in a statement on Thursday.

The cricket body believed it was inappropriate to hold these celebratory functions at a time of national concern for Mandela.

A breakfast function, honouring junior and amateur cricketers was to be followed by a golf day.

The annual celebrations were expected to culminate with a gala dinner where the professional cricketers' awards would be presented.

Hashim Amla heads the list of cricketers for the 2013 CSA awards, having been nominated in four categories.

The elegant Proteas batsman is one of five nominees for the main award: South African Cricketer of the Year.

The other nominees are one-day international captain AB de Villiers, batsman Faf du Plessis and fast bowlers Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn.
