AB: I've got nothing to prove

Cape Town - On the back of a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign, Proteas T20 skipper AB de Villiers insists he has nothing to prove.

It has been a frustrating tour to England so far for De Villiers, having led the side to a 2-1 ODI series loss and an early exit from the ICC event.

The under-fire skipper has also been criticised for his poor form, making 20 runs in his three Champions Trophy outings - including a first golden duck of his ODI career against Pakistan.

De Villiers will captain the Proteas in the absence of Faf du Plessis in the three-game T20 series against England, starting at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday (19:30 SA time).

De Villiers insisted that he has moved on from their "tough" Champions Trophy performance, taking away plenty of positives.

"It's much easier now, the first few days were really tough listening to some of the criticism, which I didn't take too personally but you sometimes listen to it and take the positives out of it and move forward," De Villiers told reporters at the Rose Bowl on Monday.

"I believe we have learned our lessons and we've taken some of the pain and tried to turn it into good energy. We've got a great feeling in the side, not feeling any pressure as a captain or as a player," De Villiers added.

"You want to score hundreds and win games for your country and I didn't do that in a while so I've got nothing to prove to anyone but I do want to go out there and perform well. There's nothing more rewarding than performing for South Africa so that's the plan."
