Cape Town - Injuries have plagued the Proteas throughout their series against England, and they received another blow on Sunday in the form of Kyle Abbott.

The Dolphins seamer left the field towards the end of England's first innings with a hamstring strain, and the word coming out of the Proteas camp on Monday was that they would not know the extent of the injury until he tried to bowl again.

Abbott, who carded figures of 0/36 in England's first innings in Pretoria, was ruled out of the second Test in Cape Town after suffering from a hamstring injury.

South Africa went into the series without the services of Vernon Philander (ankle) while they lost Dale Steyn to a shoulder injury that he suffered in the first Test in Durban.

Quinton de Kock also missed the third Test in Johannesburg after he picked up a knee injury while walking his dogs.

If Abbott cannot bowl in the second innings then Morne Morkel and first-innings hero Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the Proteas seam attack.
