Cape Town - Proteas batsman Hashim Amla says he would welcome the addition of Neil McKenzie as batting consultant to the team.

Amla was responding to reports that McKenzie was set to be announced as Cricket South Africa’s new batting consultant.

McKenzie, who recently retired from cricket after the Highveld Lions agreed to release him from his contract, is currently playing in the Masters Champions League in Dubai.

The 40-year-old told the Sunday Times that CSA wants him to work and travel with the national team when needed, including a trip to the ICC World T20 in March.

“I can’t say if it’s going to happen, but if that proves to be the case, then I’ll be very happy,” Amla told Netwerk24.

“I’ve played with Neil a lot and he is a highly respected player and a person who will definitely be an asset to the national set-up.

“He is a student of the game and with his experience he’ll be able to add value.”
