- 2000 fans are allowed into stadiums.
Cricket South Africa's acting chief executive officer Pholetsi Moseki said they're still weighing up the options of having crowds for the India tour.
After a fretful period where the discovery of the Omicron Covid-19 variant nearly derailed South Africa's cricket summer after the Netherlands ' early departure from their ODI series, the confirmation of a shortened India tour was a breath of fresh air.
India will arrive later than their scheduled 9 December date for their three-Test, three-ODI tour of South Africa, with the first Test now start starting on Boxing Day at SuperSport Park instead of 17 December.
Currently, stadiums are allowed to have 2000 vaccinated fans attend and while there were hopes of having that number increased, the spike in infections may have put paid to that.
Moseki said it's a matter they need to discuss, and they hoped to have some information by the end of Wednesday.
"The issue of fans is something that's on our agenda and once we're done with the meeting, we'll make a call from there," Moseki said.
"There are a few people we need to speak to before we can make an announcement but we hope we'll be able to make an announcement by the end of the day."
With President Cyril Ramaphosa out of the country, but also planning to convene a National Coronavirus Command Council Meeting, the issue of him summoning the country for a family meeting has become a reality.
With the meeting generally taking place on Sundays, Moseki wished for it to take place earlier as Sunday may be slightly too late for them.
"I don't know whether there's going to be a family meeting over the next few days or so and that's also going to be very important," Moseki said.
"It could be of a good view to wait for the family meeting, but we also need to discuss our thinking regarding the crowds matter.
"If the family meeting is on Sunday, that's too far for us to wait, so we'll have to work around whatever decision is made.
"We hope it will be sooner."
