Cape Town - English county Glamorgan have confirmed that talks with South African fast bowler Marchant de Lange regarding a possible Kolpak deal are still "ongoing".

Earlier this month, Knights CEO Johan van Heerden said he was confident that De Lange would not sign a deal to play Kolpak cricket in England.

However, according to Glamorgan Cricket's official website, chief executive Hugh Morris said that they were still negotiating with the South African fast bowler.

"When we do get gaps or our resources are limited, we want to make sure there's as much competition in the side as possible," said Morris.

"We've identified a need for a fast bowler and we're actively speaking to one or two options.

"We've had conversations with Marchant's agents and those are ongoing."

De Lange, 26, has played two Tests, four ODIs and six T20Is for the Proteas - with his last ODI game against England in February last year.

Should De Lange join Glamorgan, he will play alongside fellow South Africans Colin Ingram, Chris Cooke and Jacques Rudolph.

In the last month, the Proteas have lost Kyle Abbott, David Wiese and Rilee Rossouw to Kolpak deals.

They join the long list of other South Africans who recently signed Kolpak deals in England, which include Ingram, Stiaan van Zyl, Simon Harmer and Hardus Viljoen.

Players who sign Kolpak deals in England are unavailable for South Africa in international cricket.
