Faf: Proteas see KP as English

Cape Town - Proteas T20 captain Faf du Plessis does not seem too keen on the idea of representing his country alongside South African-born Kevin Pietersen.

Under ICC rules, once a player has represented one Test-playing country, he must wait four years to re-qualify for another side.

Pietersen is currently 35-years-old and he would be 37 by the time he would be eligible to play for South Africa having played his last Test for England in January 2014.

But Du Plessis, who was briefing media ahead of his side's T20I against England in Cape Town on Friday, was not sold on the idea.

“KP has had a great career for England, but certainly from a South African perspective he’s English,” Du Plessis said when asked about the prospect of Pietersen turning out for his country of birth.

Pietersen has continued to make himself available for England selection, though both Test captain Alastair Cook and limited overs captain Eoin Morgan have repeatedly shut the door on a possible return.
