Earlier this week, Temba Bavuma, the Proteas' new skipper in the limited overs formats, suggested that the national side could take pointers from England in launching their bid for World Cup glory in 2023.

Granted, the English had a whole four-year cycle to develop and refine their team that clinched world cricket's biggest trophy in 2019, while South Africa have barely 24 months left, but both nations' starting points are similar.
