The past two years haven't been kind to Australia from a fourth innings perspective.

If it's not the sheer brilliance of Ben Stokes standing between them and victory, which was the case at Headingley in 2019, it was the magnificent diffidence of Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin.

There also was the Rishabh Pant's blazing defiance that led the resistance in a way that got under Australia's skin before Tim Paine's potty-mouthed meltdown.
