Cape Town - Despite his stellar debut performance for the Proteas in Centurion, Stephen Cook has not been awarded a Cricket South Africa (CSA) contract.

Highveld Lions opener Cook scored a century (115 and 25) in his maiden Test at SuperSport Park, becoming only the sixth all-time South African to do so.

Cook's ton helped the Proteas to a 280-run victory, but his efforts were not rewarded with a CSA contract at the national body's Board of Directors meeting on Friday.

The board awarded contracts to 16 players for next year, with some players being awarded two-year contracts.

A second notable exclusion from the list was off-spinner Dane Piedt who played in three of the four Tests against England.

Contracted players:

Two-year contracts

AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, JP Duminy, Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn

One-year contracts

Kyle Abbott, Temba Bavuma, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw

Bavuma, Behardien and Rossouw have all been awarded national contracts for the first time. They were previously all on High Performance contracts.
