Cape Town - Former batsman Ashwell Prince believes there could have been room for Khaya Zondo in the Proteas Test squad to play England next month.

The Proteas announced a 16-man squad for four Tests against England that included three newcomers in Heino Kuhn, Andile Phehlukwayo and Aiden Markram.

Zondo has been captaining the SA 'A' side in all of their limited overs matches on their tour of England over the past month, but it was his form in this year's Sunfoil Series that Prince would have liked to have seen rewarded.

In 10 Sunfoil Series matches in 2016/17, Zondo scored 740 runs for the Dolphins at an average of 57.27

However, the 27-year-old's form on the SA 'A' tour of England has not been enough to get him in the Proteas mix.

He has posted scores of 24, 95, 1 and 1 in his four first class knocks on the tour, while making 56*, 22 and 14 in the limited overs matches.

Still, Prince believes Zondo should have been considered.
