Cape Town - England have posted a formidable 399 for 9 in the first one-day international against the Proteas at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

LIVE: Proteas vs England - First ODI

England captain Eoin Morgan had no hesitation in opting to bat after winning the toss and openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales got their team off to a flyer, with Roy in particular punishing the Proteas bowling.

The home side did themselves no favours, bowling both sides of the wicket and at varying lengths and placing no pressure on the English batsmen.

After Roy departed for a quick-fire 48, Hales and Root continued to bat at over seven runs per over.

Hales fell soon after reaching his half-century bringing the dangerous England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler to the crease.

Despite losing Root for a well played 52, Buttler put the Proteas attack to the sword, reaching his century off just 73 balls (10x4, 5x6).

Ben Stokes continued his fine form before falling for 57 off 38 balls (4x4, 3x6).

For the Proteas, Chris Morris was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 74 in 10 overs while the fifth bowler combination of JP Duminy and Farhaan Behardien conceded 94 runs in their combined 10 overs.
