Cape Town - South Africa lost Temba Bavuma (35) and Kagiso Rabada (0) inside the opening half hour of the second day's play in the fourth Test against England in Pretoria on Saturday, but Quinton de Kock ensured that they were still in a strong position at lunch.

At the end of the first session De Kock was 85* and the Proteas were 421/8.

Dane Piedt was not out on 10.

Starting the day on 331/5, Bavuma and De Kock were looking to be positive in the early overs.

But Bavuma added just three runs to his overnight score before he looked to drive a Stuart Broad delivery only to edge through to Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps.

In the very next over Rabada was out first ball as James Anderson had him trapped plumb LBW.

De Kock then put on a 50-run partnership with Kyle Abbott before the Proteas seamer was trapped LBW off Ben Stokes to leave South Africa 386/8.

But the South African wicketkeeper kept playing his shots, and he brought up his third Test 50 as the Proteas moved past 400.

It is De Kock's highest ever Test score.
