As a principle, there is little you can fault about Proteas head coach Mark Boucher's determination to have a sixth bowling option always available for white-ball international purposes.

Some might say it is blindingly obvious... like ensuring you have a usable spare tyre for a long road trip.

If one of the frontline members of your attack "punctures" through sudden in-play injury, or is being subjected to a particularly traumatic amount of tap, that additional presence of a competent bowler can be priceless.
