Pleasing, consistent proof of versatility... that is something South Africa's head coach Mark Boucher and company should be extremely keen to see in evidence when the seven-match limited-overs series against Pakistan begins with the first one-day international at SuperSport Park on Friday (10:00).

Unlike 50-overs world champions England, for example, the current Proteas labour under the weight of knowing that their stock of all-rounders is a relatively modest one.
