Cape Town - South African women's captain Dane van Niekerk is setting the Big Bash League alight with her leg-spin.
Turning out for the Sydney Sixers, the 24-year-old has helped herself to a staggering 16 wickets in the eight matches she has played at an average of just 9.57 and an economy rate of 5.37.
Her 4/13 against the Melbourne Renegades on January 2 are her best figures for the season.
The next highest wicket-takers in the tournament are England's Katherine Brunt (Perth Scorchers) and Australia's Sarah Aley (Sixers), who have 10 wickets each.
Van Niekerk's Proteas team-mate Marizanne Kapp, who also plays for the Sixers, has seven wickets.
On the batting front, Lizelle Lee is the best performing South African with 180 runs at an average of 36.00 for the Melbourne Stars. Mignon du Preez has 128 runs at 25.60, also for the Stars.
The Sydney Thunder currently top the Women's Big Bash League table while Van Niekerk's Sixers are in second.
