Keshav Maharaj always comes across as an articulate, thinking cricketer... perhaps already close to half the ingredients you need to become a successful captain, especially as the left-arm spinner also adds comforting weight in high-level playing experience.

The 30-year-old also seemed to revel in his leadership of the Dolphins' white-ball cause last season: the KwaZulu-Natal outfit went on to clinch the Momentum One-Day Cup title.

He has made it public subsequently - during the unusually lengthy off-season - that he has set his sights on leading the national team.
