Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) have congratulated the Proteas on their first ODI series win in Sri Lanka on Saturday.

"This is a highly impressive performance as I believe our team is still developing under Russell and AB in this World Cup year," commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

"Building on their home series win over world champions India last season and now beating a top team like Sri Lanka in their home conditions is significant progress.

"It is a huge improvement from last year’s series defeat in Sri Lanka when we were simply outplayed and it shows just how much the Proteas have advanced.

"Our coach, Russell Domingo, and the team have now banked away series wins over Sri Lanka in both the ODI and T20 formats, and that is no easy feat.

"Full praise is due to the players and the support staff.

"We can now look forward to the Test Series with confidence and the opportunity to regain the No. 1 Test ranking.

"The team again showed their character in today’s victory by the manner in which they fought back to dismiss Sri Lanka’s three senior statesmen after they had made such a runaway start."
