06 Jul 2014

What a victory for South Africa after it looked like Sangakkara would steer the Sri Lankans home. The introduction of McLaren and Steyn swung the game, while Tahir also needs to be credited for claiming vital wickets when he came on for his second spell!

Despite these late heroics, I still expect Amla to be named man-of-the-match for scoring 109 and help South Africa post 304/5.

06 Jul 2014

RESULT: South Africa win by 75 runs

06 Jul 2014

WICKET! Mendis (0) skies one high and is caught by McLaren off the bowling of Steyn. GAME OVER.

Sri Lanka all out for 229 in 40.3 overs.

06 Jul 2014

It has to be noted that it was strange that the stadium lights were not put on when it became so dark...

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 40: SL 229/9

Sri Lanka need 76 runs to win off 60 balls. Their problem is that they have only one wicket in hand...

06 Jul 2014

SIX! Malinga goes down the ground for a maximum. Remarkably, that's the first six of the Sri Lankan innings!

06 Jul 2014

The Sri Lankan crowd has also given up now and leave the stadium in their masses.

06 Jul 2014

Lasith Malinga is the last man in. He's not the best of batsmen. This should be over quickly.

06 Jul 2014

WICKET! Tahir clean bowls Senanayake for 6.

SL 223/9 after 39.1 overs.

06 Jul 2014

Immediately a massive LBW appeal from Tahir, but umpire Steve Davis says no. South Africa opt not to review it.

06 Jul 2014

Tahir now back on. Can he finish things off? Lets hope he can. I want to go watch the tennis...

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 39: SL 223/8

06 Jul 2014

In mere minutes this game has been turned on its head. No way back for Sri Lanka here.

06 Jul 2014

Ajantha Mendis is the next man in.

06 Jul 2014

WICKET! Steyn clean bowls Kulasekara, who chops it onto his stumps. He only made a single.

SL 223/8 after 38.2 overs.

06 Jul 2014

I said earlier that Sri Lanka would only win if Sangakkara bats through. I am sticking by that.

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 38: SL 222/7.

A superb over by McLaren, who gets two wickets and completely swings the tide in South Africa's favour.

06 Jul 2014

Sachithra Senanayake is the new batsman in and glides his first ball down to third man for four.

06 Jul 2014

WICKET! McLaren gets the danger man Sangakkara for 88, caught by 12th man Faf du plessis after hitting a ball straight up.

SL 217/7 after 37.3 overs.

06 Jul 2014

Nuwan Kulasekara is the new batsman in.

06 Jul 2014

WICKET! McLaren castles Thirimanne's stumps! He goes for 15.

SL 216/6 after 37.1 overs.

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 37: SL 216/5

06 Jul 2014

Sangakkara punishes Steyn through the covers.

Also the 50 PARTNERSHIP between him and Thirimanne, off 46 balls.

06 Jul 2014

DROP CATCH! Thirimanne, on 14, gets a thick edge but the low catch id dropped by wicketkeeper De Kock. Steyn is furious...

06 Jul 2014

Steyn misses his line and pays the price down the leg side...

06 Jul 2014

Steyn back on for South Africa. Time for the 'Steyn Remover' to strike.

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 36: SL 206/5

06 Jul 2014

Also the 200 up for Sri Lanka, off 213 balls.

06 Jul 2014

And yet another four. McLaren losing the plot here...

06 Jul 2014

And another four! Sangakkara in a hurry now...

06 Jul 2014

What a start to the Power Play for the hosts as Sangakkara goes over the top and hits McLaren for four over midwicket.

06 Jul 2014

McLaren is back on for the Proteas.

Sri Lanka are forced to take the Power Play.

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 35: SL 191/5

06 Jul 2014

Sangakkara punishes a Duminy long-hop. Four much needed runs for the hosts.

06 Jul 2014

It's getting quite dark and gloomy now in Colombo...

06 Jul 2014

Thirimanne plays and misses at a Philander delivery. He still hasn't found his feet...

06 Jul 2014

125 runs needed to win off 102 balls.

I think this is pretty clear: If Sangakkara bats through, then Sri Lanka will win.

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 33: SL 180/5

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 32: SL 174/5

Just four coming from the last Philander over.

06 Jul 2014

The required run-rate is now up to 7.13! Tough task to achieve that for the best part of 20 overs...

06 Jul 2014

Philander also back on now for South Africa.

06 Jul 2014

OVERS 31: SL 170/5

06 Jul 2014

Duminy back on now for the Proteas.

Two slips as Morkel bowls to the new batsman Thirimanne.
