Johannesburg - The Cape Cobras have wrapped up the domestic four-day series in fine style with an innings and 165 run win over the Lions on the final day of their match at the Wanderers, on Sunday.

The Lions were already staring down defeat, resuming on their overnight score of 124 for five still trailing by 219 runs in the second innings. The Cobras had posted a mammoth 544 in their first innings, with the intention of only batting once in the game.

Top scorer for the Lions in both the first and second innings, Rassie van der Dussen (55), was out on the fourth ball of the morning caught behind by Dane Vilas, bowled Shaheen Khan.

Sizwe Masondo and Cliffe Deacon tried in vain to hold out the rampant Cobras, putting on 40 for the seventh wicket before Travis Muller struck.

The bowler trapped Masondo plumb in front, and then bowled Hardus Viljoen the next ball.

Kagiso Rabada kept out the hat-trick delivery, but it was to be the only minor victory the Lions had amid a procession of wickets as they were bowled out for 178 before lunch.

Dane Piedt ended the innings with top bowling figures of 5/51 to bring his match haul to seven wickets.

Piedt, the Cobras leading wicket-taker, ended the season with 45 wickets.

Cobras batsman Stiaan van Zyl ended the season as the top run-scorer with 933 runs.

Cobras captain Justin Ontong who scored 119 in the first innings, ended just six runs behind Van Zyl.
