Cape Town - Half-centuries from Michael Price and Colin Ackermann held up the Cape Cobras, but the Sunfoil Series leaders will still be confident of wrapping up victory on the final day of their match against the Chevrolet Warriors at Sahara Park Newlands.

The Warriors went to stumps on 123 for two in pursuit of 474 for victory with Ackermann still at the crease, meaning the Cobras will be chasing eight wickets on Sunday.

Although the hosts maintained control of the game throughout Saturday, the outstanding contribution came from Simon Harmer as the Warriors off-spinner claimed 6 for 112 in the Cobras’ second innings.

That took Harmer back to the top of the wicket-taking list with 38, although fellow spin bowler Dane Piedt has 37 and will be aiming to usurp Harmer in bowling the Cobras to victory on the final day.

The Cobras began day three on 31 without loss in their second innings, and were regularly pegged back by Harmer in their bid to grow their lead.

Seven of the eight batsmen who made it to the crease reached 20, but captain Justin Ontong (54) was the only one to reach fifty while Yaseen Vallie was 49 not out when the hosts declared on 253 for seven.

Seven overs were left in the second session at that stage, which was long enough for the Cobras to make an impression as David White was run out.

However, Price and Ackermann dug in for an 84-run stand that ate up 28 overs, before Justin Kemp finally made the breakthrough when he had Price caught for 54.

Ackermann went to stumps unbeaten on 52 and had Ashwell Prince alongside him, meaning Prince will go into the final day of his South African professional cricket career with an opportunity to make a telling contribution on both the match and the fate of the Sunfoil Series trophy.
