Kimberley - CJ de Villiers has completed a remarkable match with the bat as his second half-century took the Titans to a seven-wicket victory over the Knights at the Diamond Oval on Sunday to keep their Sunfoil Series campaign alive.

The Titans went into the game sitting bottom of the table and knowing that they will need to win the large majority of their remaining matches.

De Villiers’ two fifties duly played a huge role in making a positive start to the second half of the season - in the first innings his 57 contributed to a 106-run stand for the 10th wicket which gave the Titans a narrow lead, and in the second he scored 52 not out after coming in as a night watchman.

The Titans began the final day on 48 for two needing 156 to win, and De Villiers and captain Henry Davids made sure that there would be no nervy chase by adding 55 before Davids was out to Werner Coetsee.

Farhaan Behardien then accompanied De Villiers for the final 53 runs, as the Titans wrapped up the game in the morning session.

The irony for De Villiers was that he failed to take a single wicket in a low-scoring game, yet still made the most important contribution and had the satisfaction of hitting the winning run.
