Pretoria - Half-centuries from Theunis de Bruyn and Henry Davids were countered by a three-wicket haul from Basheeru-Deen Walters as the first day of the Sunfoil Series clash between the Titans and the Warriors was evenly split at SuperSport Park.

De Bruyn’s 79 on his four-day debut was arguably the most impressive contribution, as the Titans scored 268 for six after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Both sides fielded inexperienced teams, with De Bruyn and Grant Thomson making their maiden franchise appearances for the Titans, and the Warriors handing franchise debuts to Somila Seyibokwe and Thandolwethu Mnyaka.

After losing opening partner Ernest Kemm early on, De Bruyn put on 108 with Davids in a positive stand that gave the Titans control.

However, Walters had accounted for Kemm, and he broke the stand when he had De Bruyn caught by Jon-Jon Smuts.

Davids was next to go when he was caught and bowled by Andrew Birch for 60, and Warriors captain Simon Harmer chimed in three overs later when he trapped Qaasim Adams lbw.

With Smuts dismissing Mangaliso Mosehle lbw, the Titans had lost three wickets for 11 runs to fall to 180 for five, but Thomson steadied the innings by putting on 67 with Cobus Pienaar.

Thomson’s knock was ended on 40 by Walters, but Pienaar reached the close on 48 not out to give the Titans a good chance of extending their innings on the second morning.
