Preotria - David Wiese chose the perfect time to claim the first 10-wicket match haul of his first-class career as he led Titans to victory over the Warriors at SuperSport Park to secure a fourth-placed finish in the Sunfoil Series.

The Titans had gone into the game in last position, but an 87-run win over the Warriors lifted them off the foot of the table and consigned the Highveld Lions to the wooden spoon.

With the Warriors top order putting up a strong fight on the final day a result was by no means a guarantee, but after Cobus Pienaar and Shaun von Berg had made vital breakthroughs, Wiese ran through the rest of the order to record figures of 6 for 59 in the second innings and 10 for 111 in the match.

As he had in the first innings, David White proved the biggest thorn in the Titans’ side as he constructed his third century of the season to finish third on the list of top run-scorers in the competition.

White began the day on 19 with the Warriors 46 for one chasing 395, and the opener turned that into 142.

The 22-year-old extended his partnership with Colin Ackermann (51) to 124 as the Titans endured a wicketless two hours at the start of the day.

However, Pienaar broke the stand when he had Ackermann caught, and then Von Berg had Jon-Jon Smuts caught behind for 28 to prevent another lengthy partnership.

Wiese returned to the attack and embarked on the key spell of the day as he ripped out the wickets of Ryan Bailey, Somila Seyibokwe, White, Simon Harmer and Andrew Birch to take the Warriors from 265 for three to 283 for eight.

Grant Thomson and Von Berg then grabbed the final two wickets to wrap up the match and give the Titans 17.48 points, which lifted them to fourth place.

The Warriors walked away with 5.68 points, which was enough to keep them above the Lions in fifth place.
