Cape Town - Hardus Viljoen continued his devastating run of form to bowl the Warriors out cheaply and secure a handy lead for the Highveld Lions on day two of the Sunfoil Series match at Bidvest Wanderers.

Having taken 10 wickets against the Dolphins last week, Viljoen returned figures of 6 for 44 as the Warriors were bowled out for 163 to concede a 128-run first-innings deficit.

In reply, Stephen Cook and Rassie van der Dussen carried the Lions to 98 without loss to give them a commanding overall lead of 226 at the halfway stage of the match.

Although Viljoen went wicket-less in his opening burst from the Golf Course End as the Warriors resumed on nine without loss, he soon returned from the Corlett Drive End and struck in his second over.

Colin Ackermann was caught at second slip for 18, and then after the drinks break Viljoen removed Yaseen Vallie and Somila Seyibokwe in the same over.

David White and Colin Ingram saw out the rest of the spell, which yielded figures of 5-1-18-3, but it wasn’t long before Aaron Phangiso bowled the Warriors skipper and in the next over White (33) was caught behind off the bowling of Nono Pongolo to leave the Warriors 80 for five.

Viljoen returned after the lunch break to trap Simon Harmer and Andrew Birch lbw, and after Phangiso took care of Sisanda Magala and Clyde Fortuin, the burly fast bowler came back to finish off the innings with the dismissal of Ayabulela Gqamane.

Cook and Van der Dussen made a cautious start to the Lions second innings, reaching 12 without loss from the first nine overs, before slowing coming out of their shell.

By the close of play, Cook had an unbeaten 62 at a respectable strike rate, while Van der Dussen was on a slower 25 not out.
