Cape Town - Proteas seamer Vernon Philander is in line to return to action this week when the Cobras take on the Dolphins in Sunfoil Series action.

Philander has not played competitive cricket since November last year after he injured his ankle in a freakish football accident following the Mohali Test against India.

It had originally been hoped that Philander would feature in the four-Test series against England, but it was not to be.

With the Cobras' not in the Sunfoil Series title race at all, Philander will be able to ease back into action on his home turf at Newlands.

Cobras coach Paul Adams is striving for better consistency and decision making from his team.

The hosts are coming off a three-wicket loss to the Knights in their last game, one of four defeats in eight matches so far in what has been a largely disappointing campaign.

The clash against the KwaZulu-Natal side has little riding on the outcome – both teams are out of the title race – with just two rounds remaining in the season.

“I think it’s important for us to strive for improvement, particularly in the areas where we have been inconsistent,” Adams said.

“We’re really determined to end of on a good note in these last couple of weeks.

“Our inconsistency and decision making has let us down this season, so we want to make sure we get better at those things. We have to make sure we’re in gear so we can play according to the way we want to.”

With an eye already on building towards next season, rookie opener Cebo Tshiki, who plays for Boland, has been named in the squad.

Rory Kleinveldt also returns to action while captain Omphile Ramela is on study leave. Justin Ontong set to deputise in his place.
