East London - The Warriors enjoyed one of their best days of the Sunfoil Series season after half-centuries from Yaseen Vallie and Colin Ackermann left them in control against the Knights.

By stumps on day three, the bottom-of-the-table hosts had reached 178 for four, a lead of 160. This was thanks in part to a solid bowling display and also the batting exploits of Vallie and Ackermann, the former who was still there on 88 not out at the close at Buffalo Park.

Ackermann was eventually out for 68 after the pair had put on 133 runs together for the third wicket, having first come together with their side once again in a huge heap of trouble on six for two.

They did lose influential captain Colin Ingram for 14 shortly before the close, but with Vallie still there, the Warriors are still in with a chance on the final day.

Earlier it was the bowlers that made the difference after they bowled out the Knights for 270, a lead of just 18 and one that looked like it could have been far more when they resumed the day on 192 for five.

Pite van Biljon top scored with 96, while captain Werner Coetsee made 44.

But Sisanda Magala (3-57) and Basheer Walters (3-42) bagged three apiece to raise hopes of a first win this season for the Warriors.
