Cape Town - Cameron Delport starred with bat and ball as the Dolphins secured a 49-run bonus-point win over the Highveld Lions in their T20 Challenge match at Kingsmead in Durban on Wednesday.

The powerful opener, who celebrated his 100th T20 match in a disappointing competition opener over the weekend, batted through the innings with an excellent 93 (62 balls, 5 fours, 6 sixes) as the hosts amassed 193/4 after they were asked to bat first.

Delport shared in a record 124-run opening stand with Morne van Wyk. The captain was also in excellent form, blasting 60 off only 37 balls, including nine fours and a six, as the visiting bowlers toiled.

Hardus Viljoen was the pick of the bowlers with 2/34 in his four overs, but the Dolphins still managed to establish an imposing total.

Delport then starred with the ball by recording career-best figures of 4/17 in 3.3 overs to help the Durbanites bounce back from their disappointing opening defeat against the Warriors.

The Lions’ response was stagnated after the early loss of Rassie van der Dussen (5) set them back badly. They did manage to rebuild through a 52-run fourth-wicket stand between Dominic Hendricks (46) and Nicky van den Bergh (43), but they then lost 7/37 at the back end of their innings to slip to a second successive loss of the season.

Robbie Frylinck (2/17), Rabian Engelbrecht (2/26) and Mthokozisi Shezi (2/30) all chipped in with two wickets apiece giving the hosts a deserved win.
