Johannesburg - Set a paltry 103 to win, the Cape Cobras thrashed the Lions by seven wickets in their domestic T20 match at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, on Friday.

The Cobras reached their target inside 16 overs with contributions from Richard Levi (24), Dane Vilas (26) and Stiaan van Zyl (24) to canter home to the easy victory in 15.3 overs.

With the win, the Cobras secured a bonus point win and top spot on the log with one round of fixtures remaining.

The only Lions bowler to trouble the Cobras batsman was Aaron Phangiso with figures of 2/25 in 3.3 overs.

The win was setup by a poor batting performance from the hosts, and some miserly bowling by the Cape side.

Although the Lions came into the game without much chance of improving their bottom position on the log, they showed exactly why they occupied the unenviable place at the foot of the table.

Quinton de Kock once again led the way amid a poor display from the Lions, top-scoring with 46 as his team were bowled out for 102.

Rassie van der Dussen, Neil McKenzie and Temba Bavuma were all out for ducks as the Lions fell to 18 for five inside five overs, with De Kock watching from the other end.

The only partnership of any substance for the Lions was between Chris Morris (41) and De Kock as they compiled 53 for the seventh wicket.

But De Kock was out stumped by Vilas in the 13th over, as the batsman waltzed down the track to Robbie Peterson.

While Morris continued to score boundaries, another procession of wickets ensued. Morris was the final batsman out, as the Lions were bundled out for just over 100 in 17.1 overs.

Beuran Hendricks was the pick of the Cobras attack with 3/13 in 3.1 overs.

Hendricks was ably assisted by Proteas bowler Vernon Philander who chipped in with 3/15, and national teammate Peterson also played a role with 3/20.
