Cape Town - According to numerous reports, next year's Indian Premier League (IPL) is considered to be hosted out of India with South Africa the frontrunner.

The IPL is expected to be move due to the country's general elections, which is held in April-May.

South Africa hosted the T20 international showpiece in 2009, which saw the then-franchise Deccan Chargers reign supreme.

According to Hindustan Times website, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are reportedly exploring their options for the series.

"We are working to shift entire IPL 2019 season to another country and South Africa is the front runner due to their prior 2009 experience." a BCCI source told Twenty20Wiki.

"There are more number of stadiums in South Africa than UAE and hosting all 60 matches couldn't be possible for 2-3 venues. This makes Africa front runner to host the next season."

The United Arab Emirates is also among the countries considered, as it co-hosted the 2014 IPL edition.

However, the Pakistan Super League tournament is scheduled from February 14 to March 17 and might clash with the start of the IPL.

South Africa's domestic T20 tournament, the T20 Challenge (formerly RAM SLAM T20 Challenge), will still go ahead and gets underway on April 5, 2019.

Cricket South Africa CEO Thabang Moroe said in August that they would jump at the opportunity to host the IPL in SA in 2019.

"If they were to propose to move it to SA‚ the easy answer to give now is yes. We would be interested in hosting the IPL‚" Moroe told Business Day.
