Cape Town - The Proteas women's side bounced back from three consecutive losses to beat New Zealand women by five wickets in the sixth one-day international at Boland Park on Saturday.

The White Ferns lead the seven-match series 4-2.

The visitors were restricted to 130 in 33.3 overs thanks to an impressive performance by the bowlers after the match was reduced to 39 overs a side because of rain in the morning.

Everyone was in the wickets, with Player of the Match Masabata Klaas leading the charge with 3-32 in eight overs. Moseline Daniels and Odine Kirsten supported her with two wickets apiece.

The Kiwis’ Katey Martin top scored with an unbeaten 65 from 80 balls, as the rest of the batting line-up failed to surpass Amy Satterthwaite’s 13.

South Africa’s batting reply saw an improved start from the opening pair, Andrie Steyn and Lizelle Lee (19), who posted 32 runs before the former’s dismissal for 11 in the seventh over.

Lee’s wicket followed in the 10th over, but Mignon du Preez and Dinesha Devnarain (10) did well to steer the ship back on course with their 45-run partnership for the third wicket.

Du Preez and captain Dané van Niekerk (36) kept cool heads after Devnarain’s stumping, adding another 45 runs for the fourth wicket before the former was caught by Maddy Green off Holly Huddleston for 44.

South Africa needed three runs to win when they lost Sinalo Jafta (0) four balls later, but Van Niekerk took control and hit the winning runs.

The hosts will hope to add another win to their tally on Monday when they play the last match of the series at the same venue.
