Cape Town - The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have terminated the participation of the Royal Sports Club, owners of the St Lucia Stars franchise.

As a result of that termination, Royal Sports Club, LLC no longer has the right to operate a team to compete in the Caribbean Premier League tournament, and the St Lucia Stars will not be competing.

CPL Limited is in the process of establishing and operating a new franchise to be based in St Lucia that will participate in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the franchise had several outstanding payments, which was one of the reasons behind its axing.

This year, the St Lucia Stars bagged Proteas fast bowler Beuran Hendricks. They had several stars in their line-up, which included Darren Sammy, Lasith Malinga and Thisara Perera.

This year's CPL will take place from September 4 to October 12.
