Cape Town - Former Dolphins wicketkeeper, batsman - and leg-spinner - Daryn Smit is enjoying life on the county circuit in England, but he made headlines for unfortunate reasons on Tuesday.

'Keeping for Derbyshire while they were taking on Durham in a Natwest T20 Blast North Group clash at the County Ground, the 33-year-old Smit was hit square in the 'nether regions' when batsman Stuart Poynter failed to pick a wrong'un from spinner Mathew Critchley.

Poynter got a bottom edge and Smit could not react in time.

Smit dropped the ground in agony and, as is the case with instances of this nature for whatever reason, those around him and the commentators had a solid chuckle.

Even the Natwest T20 Blast Twitter account had a little go at Smit, checking in that he was "okay" on Wednesday morning.

Being the good sport that he is, Smit replied to the tweet, saying that he was fine and that his wife Sarah was "happy with the swelling".

Smit left the Dolphins at the end of last season to pursue a career in county cricket and he looks to be having a good time if this little exchange is anything to go by.
