Argentina will take on Australia in Newcastle on Saturday with the winner of the clash moving to the top of the Tri Nations log ahead of the mighty All Blacks.

It is a rare scenario made possible by the All Blacks having lost back-to-back fixtures in the tournament - going down 24-22 to the Wallabies before being stunned by the Pumas to lose 25-15 last weekend.

It was the first time the All Blacks have ever lost to Argentina and it was a result that created a media storm in New Zealand.

For Argentina, though, it was one of the great days in their rugby history, made even more special by the fact that they had come into the tournament cold having not played since the 2019 Rugby World Cup as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

With attention now turning to Saturday's clash against the Wallabies, what are the chances of another upset for the men in blue and white?

According to South African bookmakers Sportingbet, the Wallabies enter the match as 57/100 favourites to win the contest while Argentina are 137/100 outsiders.

The bookies have also given the Wallabies a four-point handicap, suggesting it will be a closely contested game.

With victory, Argentina will be well positioned to make a play at winning their first ever Rugby Championship/Tri Nations title.

Australia, meanwhile, have won the tournament four times.
