Doha - French rookie Adrien Saddier caught the eye of the golfing world with a remarkable eight-under 64 on Friday to put himself in contention for a decent finish at the Qatar Masters.

The 21-year-old, who joined the pro ranks last July, produced a bogey-free round to keep the heat on overnight leader Rafa Cabrera-Bello and the chasing pack of George Coetzee, Steve Webster and Johan Carlsson who were all yet to start their third rounds.

Saddier, who finished tied sixth at the Nelson Mandela Championship in December, blazed six birdies over the front nine and picked up two more shots for a three-round aggregate of 11-under 205 and a tie for second spot with Coetzee and Milko Ilonen of Finland.

Spain's Cabrera-Bello continues to lead the event by two shots with a 13-under 131 after two rounds.
