South Africa's Garrick Higgo has claimed his maiden European Tour victory at the Open de Portugal at Royal Obidos on Sunday.

Higgo struck a bogey-free seven-under-par final round of 65 to finish the week on 19-under par and ending one stroke clear of Spain's Pep Angles.

The 21-year-old Higgo is a two-time Sunshine Tour winner and tasted victory earlier this year in February's Tour Championship at Serengeti Golf and Lifestyle Estate.

Higgo, who's victory comes in just his seventh Tour start, admitted that the feeling had not yet sunk in following his win.

"It feels awesome. I thought it was going to be a little bit easier over the last three holes but he (Pep Angles) made it a bit tough. That birdie on the last was really, really nice," Higgo told reporters following his win on Sunday.

"It actually feels a little bit like South Africa to be honest. I just really enjoyed it and I just made sure I had fun out there. It's a funny feeling. I'm sure it'll kick in tonight but for now it's just nice."

Higgo's countryman George Coetzee continued his excellent form and followed his Portugal Masters victory with a tied for third place at Royal Obidos on 15-under par.

Higgo will now receive additional European Tour playing rights after his win in Portugal.
