Springfield - British Open winner Henrik Stenson birdied the par-four third hole Sunday to pull within a stroke of the lead in Sunday's third round of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

US co-leaders Robert Streb and Jimmy Walker each made bogeys at the third and stumbled back to eight-under with a four-foot birdie putt moving Stenson to seven-under alongside top-ranked defending champion Jason Day and Argentina's Emiliano Grillo, who each opened with four pars.

Leaders were unable to start their third round Saturday due to afternoon thunderstorms but 37 of 86 players did finish and they will stay in the same pairings and begin the fourth round in the morning in a bid to finish the event Sunday, despite storms in the afternoon forecast.

Early starters struggled with slowed green speeds on the saturated surfaces, but not England's Tyrrell Hatton, who closed a round of 66 with back-to-back birdies to match American Kevin Kisner for the 54-hole clubhouse lead at five-under.
