South African golfer Erik van Rooyen has taken self-isolation to a new level after the PGA Tour and European Tour cancelled several tournaments due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Van Rooyen was one of five SA golfers who teed up at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, which was then cancelled after the first round.

The PGA Tour has since cancelled or postponed eight weeks of events through to the Byron Nelson (7-10 May).

After the Masters in April was postponed, the PGA of America postponed the year's second major, the PGA Championship (14-17 May), until a yet-to-be-announced date later this year.

Meanwhile, six of the European Tour's events on this season's Race to Dubai have either been postponed or cancelled.

"No golf... Might as well have some @foofighters in your life," wrote the South African to his Twitter followers.

The 30-year-old was hoping to continue his fine form this season after moving up to 42nd in the World Golf rankings.

Van Rooyen was due to make his Masters debut at Augusta National next month before it was postponed.
