Cape Town - Sport24 readers say that the Proteas' selection panel is to blame for South Africa's current struggles in ODI cricket.

Sri Lanka recorded an emphatic eight-wicket victory over the Proteas in the fourth and deciding one day international on Sunday, reducing Wednesday's fifth and final match in Colombo to academic importance.

South Africa continued their disappointing slump in Sri Lanka after bowing out of another ICC tournament earlier this year when they lost to England in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Last week, Cricket South Africa announced the re-appointment of Andrew Hudson as convener of the national selection committee as well as the appointment of two new selectors in former KwaZulu-Natal wicketkeeper Linda Zondi and former Gauteng all-rounder Hussein Manack.

Here's what Sport24 readers had to say:

"I believe the biggest problem of all is selection, should this issue be sorted out and understood then the rest will fall into place an passion shall be restored!" - Clint Croft

"There are players that shouldn’t be in the team that have been picked on what they have done in the past, but are inconsistent at present." - Litha Kutta

"The problem with Proteas is with the selection, when last did they select a winning team, or they are still testing the current squad with the current squad we going nowhere. Please guys bring the winning team or interesting squad!"
- Lungisa

"The problem is that players are being picked on what they have done in the past."
- Litha Kutta

"The selection panel could do a much better job." - Zaahid Harnekar

"The Proteas have changed their captain, their coach, their personnel and old players affected by past failures have all left, yet they are still unable to perform in the limited form of the game, the only constant in the equation left is the selectors. Fire them!"
- HarleyQ

"Hudson is CSA's biggest problem!"
- Jaco Groenewald

"Hudson is no selector never mind a convenor thereof."
- Lionel Kritzinger

"Our selectors make the mistake of seeing "big hitters" who score loads or runs on flat tracks against average bowling as the way to go. Where are the accumulators like jonty ? People who score at a run a ball? Where are the smart bowlers who work to get you out instead of following a one dimensional bowling approach? It all comes down to poor selection."
