A herbalist from the Eastern Cape, Reuben Matewu, says he can help Bafana Bafana win matches at the current Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, after they were held to a goalless draw by minnows Cape Verde in their opening match.

Here is what Sport24 readers had to say in response:

"What Bafana need is Madiba magic." - Anonymous

"This Muti stuff is crazy." - Clive GoPaul

"That is utterly a dream under the pipe, herbs and football does not mix. The thing that can help is a good motivator and hardworking. Let the boys play the SA flair of football and forget the mythical muti. Rather employ a person to motivate the boys than pay for muti."
- Nathaniel Khoza

"If you're good you good and if your not then no amount of herbs, spells and sacrifices will help you...The South African team should spend more time practicing and perfecting their game not looking for witch doctors to help them, it's sad that they even took it onto consideration." - Ruth

"Very big nonsense."
- Vusizulu

"I find it shocking that SAFA can even think of wasting money on a herbalist. Let them not turn our beloved sport into a herbalist joke. They have already ripped off a lot of people off and their herbs didn’t work." - Jones

"If the players are lazy to do their job surely no muti or best coach can perfom magic to bring positive result."
- Anon

"Kindly do not charm/ use muti in our football, because that will destroy self esteem to the players. I cannot praise a winning team that uses ghost to perform. I would rather forfeit my three tickets than go watching that I know very well use Muti, no I can't. This muti will spoil the game."
- Dino

"We want to see a fair football, not magic on the field." - mica gogame

"Surely using a sangoma would be tantamount to cheating?" - Nhlafrica

"Is this not doping?"
- Makgetha Ngwepe

"I think football doesn't need muti but commitment." - Anon

"Shocked..if the boys all along have been using muthi to win their games clearly these guys cannot play soccer so it's time for coach to search for people who have real talent and who don't need some boost like Lance Armstrong." - Mapule

"Muti does work. So they should consider that help. However, muti does not play the ball. It assists people who work hard and know how to play."
- Zembe

"I really think we should consider this since we don't have any match plan." - Mamathumani

"We didn't use any muti in 1996." - scelojackson

"That's total nonsense, African teams could have won The World Cup many times if muti works." - Alvin

"I don't believe in muti. Africa is the best continent when it comes to muti but we never won the World Cup."
- qsigudla

"Let's cut to the chase; not all players believe in muti hence I say it will not work." - Sicelo

"This is hilarious! I thought football is about talent and not muti. Very disappointing that the Association can even entertain such nonsense." - Emmanuel Malenga

"No!!! This should not be considered. Is just a money scam: Muti does not work in sports." - Vusi

"Shouldn't smoke the "herbs" chief..." - Boksom Bende

"I have no disrespect for the muti and it's history, nor would I discredit if it works or not, but to take any supplements to promote your self in sports might end up bringing controversy in to play. Sure if Safa or whom ever makes the rules clears muti as a legal and fair supplement why not let the players choose if they want to use it."
- Salmer
