Losing faith in the Proteas

I have always been a Proteas supporter, looking up to the likes of AB De Villiers and party. However, with specific reference to the ODI and T20 team, I have lost a great deal of faith and support in these guys and I am sure many others feel very much the same. We want our team to win, and whilst we understand that not every match can be won, I am frustrated at the fact that almost every game in a green shirt is lost without a proper fight and challenge to the opposition. The latest loss to Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the current series is a typical example.

I feel that that are multiple areas where in which they are lacking the success factor.

-    The selection panel could do a much better job
-    Players’ attitude, dedication and commitment is not up to scratch
-    Tendency to give up without a fight
-    Too much hype before the game, proceeding to be over confident in Tweets, press conferences and the like – the latter of which, might I add, AB De Villiers is not suitable for in my opinion
-    Perhaps we are missing a more effective captain

The Proteas have unfortunately developed a nasty reputation of late which they need to restore by performing in the manner in which we know they are capable of, but by repeating the same mistakes over and over again, and saying the same things in their interviews, is not going to do anyone any justice. I shake my head every time AB De Villiers is interviewed because his answers are just not like Graeme Smith’s, for example, would be. I understand that they are two different people but what AB De Villiers is fond of doing, whether he is aware of it or not, is making promises and then not delivering them out there on the field where it matters. I sometimes feel even I can do a better job at it.

Let’s be honest, the Proteas have quality cricket players in their midst, we have seen them perform before, but they seriously lack displaying this ability in the limited overs formats of recent times.

The Proteas need to stop experimenting as the next big tournament is not that far ahead, and it is now that we need to let a team gel and become accustomed to playing in the purest and most competitive level, otherwise they will fail in their duty to please the supporters and indeed themselves.
