SARU ruling mind-boggling

The rulings that the SANZAR judiciaries make are absolutely mind boggling… I mean is there not a “book of sanctions” that have various incidents tabled out against the applicable sanction?

As said in the Sport24 column, Michael Rhodes from Western Province received an on-field red card and then was still banned for 1 week after the citing commission found him guilty of deliberate foul play. Held in a tackle and moving backwards he stepped on the face of Jono Ross from the Blue Bulls. YES, I do agree that it was dodgy. In real-time, it looked accidental, in “slow-mo” it looked deliberate so fine, if they found him to be guilty, then yes, ban him for a week. My question is: Shouldn’t the same apply to Bismarck Du Plessis? OF COURSE IT SHOULD!

In the video footage, you can clearly see him take a “swipe” at Lappies Labuschagne which is masterfully blocked, then Bismarck stands up and deliberately stomps and rakes him on the chest with his left boot. All of this 5m from the touchline directly under the assistant referee’s nose. Fair and well, it was he who brought this to the referee’s attention and after the TMO footage, he was issued a yellow card. Why a red card for one incident and a yellow in another game for the same offence, the latter being blatantly deliberate? Go and watch the footage again, I implore you, and you can clearly hear Joel Stransky say “Ah that’s a shocker…” I like to think that he knows what he is talking about seeing that he has been given the task of commentating on games.

The citing commission that we have is just as poor as the TMO’s that are employed to review footage that referee’s cannot see in a game. They both have multiple camera angles and can slow the footage down to as slow as they like yet they still cannot make the fair calls? No my fellow rugby enthusiasts, there is far more to these decisions than the eye meets. Sport, is after all, just business! My opinion is “what’s good for one, is good for all!”

Next week being a Currie Cup final, there is far too much on the line for Bissy to be banned for the game…

Refereeing in general, is destroying sport around the world!
