Cape Town - 2018 Comrades Marathon winner Ann Ashworth has publicly snubbed Athletics South Africa (ASA), turning down the opportunity to take part in the World 100km Championships.

Ashworth made headlines on June 10 when she claimed her first-ever Comrades crown in a time of six hours 10 minutes and 04 seconds.

As a result, ASA named her in their side to take part on the 100km Championships in Croatia in September.

Ashworth, however, had other ideas.

The 32-year-old took to Twitter to decline the invitation from ASA, and she used the platform to criticise ASA over a lack of support for road running over the years.

"Thanks @ASAathletics but until you actually start doing something to assist road runners in our country with funding and other support I'm not happy to compete in SA colours #nosupport #notworking #notbeingused," Ashworth tweeted.

The winner of the men's race, Bongmusa Mthembu, is also included in the 100km Championship squad.
