Cape Town - Current UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has been forced to withdraw from next week’s UFC 196 main event due to injury.

According to sources close to situation, dos Anjos broke his foot late last week forcing him to pull out of his lightweight title fight against McGregor.

UFC officials are currently working on finding an opponent to replace dos Anjos on just two week’s notice.

McGregor who is the current UFC featherweight champion was just days away from possibly becoming the first man in promotional history to hold two belts at the same time.

Last summer leading up to UFC 189 Jose Aldo, featherweight champion at the time, withdrew from his fight against the Irishman just eleven days prior to them fighting.

The UFC quickly sourced an opponent, booking Chad Mendes to take Aldo’ place and the event would go onto to be a huge success.

This now marks the fourth time in Mcgregor’s eight UFC fights that the original opponent has been forced to pull out of their fight. With the no word on who may replace dos Anjos, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, who has had words with McGregor in the past, has expressed a keen interest in stepping up on short notice to fight the brash Irishman.
