Cape Town - New Zealand 'blade runner' Liam Malone has smashed another Paralympic record set previously by Oscar Pistorius in winning his second gold medal at the Rio Paralympics.

According to the Stuff website, Malone's winning time of 46.20 in the final of the men's 400m T44 was just 0.11 outside New Zealand's able-bodied record, as he secured his third medal in his debut at the Games.

Malone won silver in the 100m last Saturday before his first gold in the 200m on Tuesday.

Malone's time in the 400m beat Pistorius' record of 46.68 by 0.48.

Earlier in the week Malone wiped Pistorius' 200m Paralympic time from the record books.

Malone won in a time of 21.06. Pistorius' record was 21.30.
