Johannesburg - Before jetting off to Rio de Jeneiro for the upcoming Olympic Games, the national under-23 goalkeeper Jody February believes that the current generation will emulate the squad of 2000 by beating Brazil in their opening game next month.

Amaglug-glug will open their campaign against the host nation on August 4 and the young Ajax Cape Town shot stopper is confident that his team-mates will give it their best shot to cause an upset.

Sixteen years ago, the famous Amaglug-glug side led by Shakes Mashaba completed 'the mission impossible' when they defeated a star-studded Brazilian team which included the likes of Ronaldinho at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Quinton Fortune, Siyabonga Nomvethe and Steve Lekoelea were on target for South Africa as Amaglug-glug triumphed 3-1 but could not pass the group stages and they suffered two defeats against Japan and Slovakia.

February insisted that they can do better and advance to the knock-out stages this time.

“Yes, we all know about that famous history made in 2000,” said February.

“And hopefully we can emulate them and even do better, and we are playing our first game against them (Brazil).

“We will be under no pressure at all; Brazil will be under pressure as a host nation and favourites.

“We are just going to give it our all at the end of the day.”
